Dr. Gerry Olynyk
Dr. Gerry Olynyk was born in Edmonton in 1946, and decided to become a veterinarian in 1950. He obtained his BSc from the University of Alberta in 1968 and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine in Saskatoon in 1972. The first nine years of practice were spent in a very busy multi-veterinarian practice in Calgary. In 1981 Dr. Olynyk established Edgemont Veterinary Clinic which he owned and operated for 31 years. The practice was sold in February, 2012. Since that time he has maintained steady part-time employment at Acadia Drive Animal Clinic. His special interests include dermatology, behaviour and internal medicine. Dr. Olynyk is married to a very patient and devoted wife Wendy, and has two wonderful young adult children – Carlin and Cayla. Away from work life, Dr. Olynyk amuses himself dreaming about becoming and excellent runner, golfer, curler, piano and tabla (indian drum) player. Over the years Dr. Olynyk has shared his home with a great variety of inherited misfit dogs, cats, birds, fish and gerbils. In his old age, he is grateful to finally be enjoying three middle aged, under-achieving miscreant cats and some tropical fish.
