Flea and Tick Control

Fleas and ticks are parasites that are very small. Protect your cat with a parasite prevention plan.

We rarely see fleas here in Calgary unless on farm cats or acreage cats. Calgary has a bylaw, where cats must not leave their property, so most people keep their cats inside. Fleas don’t seem to thrive here as they do in other warmer provinces. Again, we do not see too many cats with ticks as they’re mostly indoor cats and are not exposed.

How do I know if my cat has fleas?

Common symptoms of fleas are droppings or flea dirt on your cat’s fur, flea eggs (tiny white grains), excessive scratching, licking or biting at the skin, hair loss, scabs or allergic dermatitis.

Do fleas harm cats?

Fleas can be very irritating and cause a lot of skin issues. They also carry the tapeworm larva and if ingested by your cat can cause a tapeworm infestation. If not treated, this can be very detrimental to your cat’s health.

Why is treating and preventing fleas so important?

Fleas can lay thousands of eggs in the environment (esp. in your home, along baseboards). Once hatched, your house can quickly become infested, and this makes it miserable for both you and your pets.
